First of all, forgive my ignorance of my heritage…

I am from the UK born of an English Father and Maltese Mother… I have

recently decided that I want to understand some of my heritage, the Maltese

part that is.

My question, I understand very little about the Maltese Language and can

find nothing about it in either my local bookstores or libraries. I

therefore would like to know just how close is the Maltese languge to

Italian? My Mother tells me Italians can understand Maltese and vica-versa,

is this true? By learning Italian will this enable me to understand Maltese

to some extent?
